Malol

In Jerash, we gathered and documented the city’s rich musical heritage, presenting it through the voices of its young men and women. These traditional melodies connect generations—both past and future. The project’s name, “Malol,” reflects the resilience and spirit of Jordan and its people, much like the “Malol” tree, known for its gentle strength, enduring presence, and resistance to being felled.

Through authentic folk songs and collective efforts, the project reconnects people with their roots and strengthens the cultural identity of Jordan’s kind and generous communities.

This initiative is a collaboration between Tajalla for Music and Arts and the Institute for Policy and Society, dedicated to exploring, documenting, and reviving Jordanian musical heritage. Tajalla began this work in 2017 through the “I Am My Voice” project, implemented in four cities: Irbid, Madaba, Tafila, and Petra.

The project aims to revive and spread Jordan’s popular heritage, bridging generational gaps between children, youth, and their parents and grandparents. It safeguards a legacy that spans thousands of years of human civilization.
