The “Jalatoun” project is named after a seasonal plant abundantly found in the city of Irbid, in northern Jordan.

Jalatoun is a community music project that provides a platform and resources for young men and women to learn music. The project aims to rearrange and disseminate Jordanian musical heritage in a modern and high-quality format.

The project began at “Beit Najm Al-Deen for Art and Culture” in Irbid, targeting 15 young musicians aged 18 to 30, all of whom are influenced by the traditional music of the Hauran plains. The participants, residing in Irbid and its surrounding rural areas, include Jordanians, Syrians, Palestinians, and Egyptians.

On October 24, 2018, Jalatoun was officially launched at the Dar Al-Saraya Museum in downtown Irbid with a full-scale performance titled “Jalatoun – Songs from Hauran.” The event was a major success, drawing a large and enthusiastic audience.

Jalatoun offers young musicians a platform to express themselves, connect, and exchange experiences with professional musicians and aspiring artists through a series of joint workshops.
